The Indian Minister of Commerce, Piyush Goyal, said that a free trade agreement with the EU is unlikely without excluding climate regulations and tackling non-tariff obstacles.
He also said that Europe is today in a “crisis” due to the severity of the non-tariff obstacles it has created and if they are not discussed, it would be difficult to negotiate with them.
Although the Minister said the two parties could finish most of the discussions in a fairly amicable manner, but there will be two areas on which the European Union will have to rethink.
“One is these non -commercial problems (climate regulations) that seek to superimpose on the agenda … The European Commission will have to think about it. They will be very difficult to obtain a trade agreement with anyone.
“Any country of respect, a decent country cannot register for the commitments which are irrational, beyond the field of trade and where the rest of the world was responsible for the problem in the first place, and sought to be put on the head as if it were our responsibility to resolve you,” he said here during an event.
On non -pricing obstacles in Europe, Goyal said that in Europe only recognizes the path with which they follow, “I see serious difficulties” so that Europe can trade with any country, forget India.
The Minister said he was a man worried about the “very future” of the EU and their businesses, given the kind of difficult “grammatical” barriers that they created both for their own businesses and for the rest of the world.
Goyal added that he is simply trying to thank Europe and that they must approach these obstacles and regulations.
“… All companies in Europe are in distress because of these non-tariff obstacles and regulations. Unless the EU union sits down and is aimed at this, I can see a serious decline of the EU and its future with self-imposed injuries. At the end of the day, which will happen to Europe will be an island between the two.
