“The partner is deeply rooted in the DNA of the European Union. Because ourselves, the European Union is based on cooperation between partners”.
The EU has engaged in international peace and security and the maintenance of international order and multilateralism based on rules as defined by the Charter of the United Nations. The EU contribution to world peace and security is based on a complete toolbox which includes a wide range of means: diplomatic efforts, support for development, mediation and conflict prevention to the non-nuclear proliferation, arms export controls or maritime security. It is supported by the work of nearly 5,000 EU military and civilian employees who are currently deployed in 9 Missions and Operations of the Civil Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) in three continents.
Dialogue and commitment with its partners are at the heart of how the EU sees its international role. The deepening of security and defense partnerships is a central element of the EU strategic compass, which describes the strategic vision and the common concrete stages of the EU to strengthen its position as a capable, efficient and security and defense manager; Protect the security and prosperity of its citizens and more effectively contribute to international peace and stability.
In the compass, the EU is also committed to developing a security and defense forum (“the Schuman forum”) to work more and more closely and effectively with partners to meet the common security and defense challenges .
