NEW DELHI: A team of high-level negotiators from the European Union (EU) is here for discussions with their Indian counterparts on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA). The talks, which began on November 3 and are expected to last until November 7, aim to resolve key outstanding issues and advance the agreement toward a “balanced and fair framework that benefits both parties,” according to an official statement.
The visit follows Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal’s official visit to Brussels, where he held talks with Maros Sefcovic, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security. “These consultations reaffirm the commitment of both parties to intensify their engagement and facilitate a comprehensive trade agreement,” the statement said.He said the week’s deliberations will focus on key areas including trade in goods, trade in services, rules of origin, among others, as well as technical and institutional issues. “The discussions are guided by a shared vision of a modern, robust and future-ready FTA, which reflects the priorities and sensitivities of India and the EU,” the official statement added.
