Russia is in the process of approving nearly 25 fishing units in India, making them eligible to supply the country, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday (November 18, 2025).
Recently, the European Union (EU) approved the export of an additional 102 units of marine products from India.
“Russia is also in the process of approving nearly 25 fishing establishments,” he told reporters in New Delhi.
He said India was in talks with several other countries, including the UAE, to diversify its shrimp and fish exports.
The development is also important for diversifying India’s shrimp exports, which are hit hard by the high 50% tariffs imposed by the United States.
India’s shrimp exports in 2024-25 stood at $4.88 billion, accounting for 66% of total seafood exports.
Asked about the status of negotiations on the proposed India-EU free trade agreement, Goyal said, “I am confident that in the coming months we should be able to reach an agreement with the EU, subject to resolving some of the last mile issues currently under negotiation.”
