New Delhi (India), October 5 (Ani): Congress deputy for Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor received a courtesy call with the secretary (west) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George.
Both talked about strengthening links with Europe.
In an article on X, Tharoor said: “received a courtesy call from the new secretary (west) newly appointed in the MEA, Sibi George, fresh out of a successful passage in Japan. Spoke of the need to strengthen our relationship with Europe in the midst of all global uncertainties.”

According to the MEA, the relationship between India and the European Union (EU) is based on shared values and principles such as democracy, the rule of law, the international order based on rules and multilateralism. The links are multifaceted and cover a wide range of subjects, including trade, investment, climate change, science and technology, digital, connectivity and agriculture.
The bilateral relations of the India-EU date back in the early 1960s, India being among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the European Economic Community in 1962. The joint political declaration signed in 1993, coupled with the cooperation agreement signed in 1994, paved the way for strengthening bilateral attachments.
Following the European parliamentary elections in June 2024, Prime Minister Modi and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen met on the sidelines of the G20 Rio summit in November 2024. PM spoke by telephone with the president of the European Council Antonio Costa in January 2025. There are high -level regular interactions between the chiefs. Prime Minister Modi met the president of the European Council at the time, Charles Michel, and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G-20 summit (Rio de Janeiro, Nov. 2023).
There are regular and frequent interactions at the ministerial level / commissioner between India and the EU. (Ani)
