NEW DELHI: India and the European Union (EU) have exchanged assessments of domestic and global threats and discussed cooperation in multilateral organizations such as GADA during an anti -terrorist dialogue in Brussels, a joint declaration said on Wednesday.
The meeting of the joint working group on counter-terrorism, held on Tuesday, condemned the “odious” terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 as well as cross-border terrorism, according to the press release.
Counter-terrorism dialogue was part of a series of commitments between the two parties aimed at strengthening strategic and security cooperation before the India-EU summit to be held at the start of next year.
The dialogue facilitated an exchange of national, regional and global assessments of both parties, which stressed that instability and conflicts in different regions of the world are catalysts of terrorism and violent extremism, according to the press release.
The two parties have agreed that terrorism is a global phenomenon that needs a concerted action and has stressed the importance of cooperation in multilateral forums such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the United Nations and the Global Forum to Combat Terrorism (GCTF).
“The two parties condemned the odious terrorist attack on April 22, 2025 in Pahalgam and in the EU reiterated its condolences to India for the murder of innocent civilians,” the statement said. “The two parties reiterated their strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and demonstrations, including cross -border terrorism.”
India and the EU have shared updates to their policies to combat terrorism and have addressed other important subjects in the fight against terrorism, including measures to counter the financing of terrorism and prevent online radicalization, and exchanges on the designation of individuals and terrorist entities.
The two parties also explored means of strengthening their cooperation against terrorism and identified areas of future collaboration, the press release said without giving details.
The dialogue was co-chaired by KD Dewal, co-secretary (fight against terrorism) of the Ministry of External Affairs, and Maciej Stadejek, director of the security and defense policy in the European external action service.
The next meeting of the joint working group will be held in New Delhi
