Germany is the economic power of Europe and its support is essential for an early conclusion of the Indian Ale-EU in the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and the delay in the India-US trade agreement, according to analysts.
The Minister of External Affairs said that Wadephul had told him that Germany would put its full weight behind India-EU FTA.
Predictability has a large bonus in global politics, said Jaishankar, addressing the backdrop of India, seeking to readjust its relations with China and extend its links with Russia while maneuvering through American prices.
The minister also said the world witnessed radical changes in the global strategic landscape. “The changes we see in the world today influence our policy and influence the way we approach other countries,” he said.
The talks with Wadephul, he said, focused on increasing bilateral links in the fields of economy, climate change, defense and technology. “We appreciate Germany’s goal to double trade with India,” said Jaishankar. He also expressed his appreciation for Germany to resolve export control problems. The Minister of External Affairs also declared: “We considerably appreciate the understanding that Germany has shown as regards the struggle of India against terrorism. The German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wadephul himself was explicit on our right to defend our people against the Terrorist operation.
He added: “There was an increase in our cooperation in defense and security. Germany participated in the Tarang Shakti Air exercises last year, and its ships made port calls to Goa. Today, we have agreed that such participation should be continuous, even indeed enlarged.”
Wadephul praised India’s growing role in technology, noting that accommodation for the next AI summit reflected the country’s ambition to be among the world leaders.
Wadephul urged India to put Russia on its close ally to return to peace discussions on war in Ukraine, a few days after the Indian PM Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in China.
