India is working on accelerated discussions with the European Union so that a free trade agreement can be finalized soon, said official sources.
“We are working on accelerated ALF in instance such as the EU … The majority of interviews with them are finished. The two parties had mutually decided to conclude the ALE by December. Other meetings which are held at different levels, including between ministers,” said a manager.
In July, NDTV Profit had indicated that India and the EU had exchanged offers on services and non-service and that the 12th cycle of negotiations ended. The next round, which should be a person in person in the EU in India, is scheduled for the first week of September.
The FTA should cover goods, services, investment, sustainability and digital trade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen had agreed during the latter’s historic visit to the college of EU commissioners in New Delhi in February 2025.
On the Oman front, a trade agreement has been agreed, with only an official signature pending.
“The talks have ended. We will sign an agreement when mutually practical dates will be decided,” said the official.
India also pushes to accelerate the Asean-India Trade in Goods Accord exam, which is currently underway. The delegations of several ASEAN member countries are in India for discussions aimed at deepening trade links and responding to the concerns of the Pact. Meanwhile, talks with New Zealand for a free trade agreement project have also taken momentum, with two negotiations already completed.
