
Stressing significant progress in the end of negotiations, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, expressed its optimism that India and the European Union (EU) could conclude a finalized free trade agreement (ALE) by the end of this year, adding that there are no fixed deadlines for such discussions.
During a press conference in Paris, the minister noted that negotiations will progress quickly. According to reports, Goyal added that there are certain aspects on both sides which must be resolved. The reports noted that the India-EU FTA has 23 chapters.
Goyal added that there are not many problems where the two parties have divergent opinions. According to reports, he said that in the majority of cases, which is an offensive interest in India does not injure the EU economy. In June 2022, India and the EU resumed negotiations for a complete ALE.
Goyal’s visit to France marks the start of his official three -day visit from June 1 to June 3, 2025. During his stay, the minister will also participate in the informal meeting of ministers of the Ministerial Council of the World Trade Organization (OECD). During this forum, he will engage with global counterparts on the main multilateral trade problems and will articulate the perspectives and priorities of India.
According to the official declaration, as part of the visit, the Minister will hold a series of high -level bilateral meetings with key international partners. These include the Secretary of State in the United Kingdom for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds; The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and Industry of Singapore, Gan Kim Yong; And the Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, Majid Bin Abdullah al-Kasabi.
