Indore, on April 15 (PTI), the Commerce and Investment Commissioner of Sweden in India Sofia Högman said on Tuesday that it expects the free trade agreement to be proposed between India and the European Union (EU) comes into force this year.
Högman stressed that this agreement will open up new doors to increase the bilateral partnership between India and Sweden.
India and the EU discuss the free trade agreement gradually. The two parties finished the 10th round of talks for the agreement proposed in Brussels last month. The next series of talks should take place in New Delhi in May.
Commerce experts believe that it is important to strengthen economic relations between India and the EU for the high pricing policy of US President Donald Trump. Sweden is one of the 27 countries associated with the EU.
The Swedish commerce commissioner Högman, speaking with journalists here on the sidelines of an event, said that a delegation led by the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen went to India at the end of February and that the dialogue between India and the EU on a free trade agreement has intensified this year.
She said: “If we are talking about what’s going on in the world today, of course, we have hopes and ambitions that the free trade agreement (proposed) between the EU and India will be put in place during this year. The agreement would, of course, be even more favorable to the great collaboration that we already have between Sweden and India.
Högman answered a question about the impact of the new United States high pricing policy on bilateral cooperation between India and Sweden in the field of green technology.
