Union Minister Piyush Goyal is undertaking a crucial two-day diplomatic mission to Brussels, where he met Maros Sefcovic, the European Union Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, to assess the progress of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Goyal expressed his satisfaction with the proceedings in a social media post, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening trade relations.
The discussions in Brussels underlined the determination of both sides to accelerate the India-EU FTA, with a view to reaching a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement. The effort is seen as essential for strategic and economic ties between India and the European bloc. Goyal also engaged with Johann Wadephul, German Federal Foreign Minister, expanding the dialogue to key areas of mutual interest, crucial for India and Germany.
The minister’s trip is part of efforts to provide political and strategic momentum to the ongoing FTA negotiations, particularly following the 14th round of negotiations earlier this month. The dialogue assumes increased importance in the context of India-EU relations, especially after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which focused on a modern trade framework promoting prosperity, sustainability and innovation.
