New York: Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani reaffirmed his country’s support to the rapid conclusion of a free trade agreement (ALE) between India and the European Union.
After his meeting Thursday with the Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar and the Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal, Tajani posted on X: “I confirmed the support of Italy to a rapid finalization of the free trade agreement.”
He noted that Italy and India share a strategic political and economic partnership, which he intends to deepen with another visit to India in the coming months. “India is a priority country of our #pianoexport,” he said, using the meaning of the Italian word piano. He added that a commitment of 500 million euros was allocated to support Italian exporters in India.
Jaishankar, in his article on X, said that discussions covered developments in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Ukraine and Indo-Pacific, as well as the progress of bilateral ties.
The same day, Jaishankar also met Yvette Cooper, the new British Foreign Affairs Minister, appointed in reshuffle of the cabinet this month. Their talks focused on monitoring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July visit to the United Kingdom, during which India-Uk Vision 2035 was unveiled. The ten -year roadmap describes cooperation in defense, job creation, advanced technologies and education, in parallel with the complete economic and commercial agreement.
The Minister of External Affairs also held meetings with Penny Wong counterparts from Australia, Carlos Ramiro Martínez du Guatemala, Badr Abdeatty from Egypt, Mohamad Haji Hasan of Malaysia, Arnoldo André de Costa Rica and Javier Martínez-Wacha Vásquez de Panama.
