India and the European Union (EU) promised on Friday to increase cooperation in various sectors, especially in the fields of security and defense. The two parties expressed their satisfaction with regard to growing political commitments and regular sectoral interactions while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, met with the members of the Committee of the European Union (PSC) on Friday in New Delhi.
The PSC delegation of 30 members, during its very first visit to Asia, was led by Delphine Pronk, president of the committee, and included PSC ambassadors of the EU member states as well as officials of the European Commission and the European external action service.
On the Indian side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Misri was joined at the meeting by the deputy advisor of national security Pavan Kapoor, the secretary (West) Sibi George and other senior officials.
“Discussions focused on the progress of cooperation in India-EU in various sectors, especially in the fields of security and defense. Developments, ”read a statement published by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) after the meeting.
During their two -day working visit to India, the members of the PSC also met the Secretary of Defense, received a briefing on the information merger center – the Indian Ocean Region (IFC -OIO) and interacted with representatives of the Indian defense industry.
“The visit to the EU PSC is based on the momentum after the historic visit to the college of EU commissioners in India in February 2025 and reflects the joint commitment to a strategic partnership in India-EU Douter,” added the MEA press release.
There are regular exchanges between India and the EU on security and defense issues thanks to the vast architecture of bilateral dialogue, including in the fields of security and defense, maritime security, cyber and the fight against terrorism. The two parties also explore the ways for increased cooperation in the defense and manufacturing industry.
