Brussels: India and the European Union (EU) held their 15th meeting of the joint working group on counter-terrorism (CT) in Brussels, reiterating their strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and demonstrations, including cross-border terrorism. The two parties have agreed that terrorism is a global phenomenon and requires concerted action in a sustained and complete way.
Director of the security and defense policy in the European external action service, Maciej Stadejek and the joint secretary (counter-terrorism) of the Ministry of External Affairs, KD Dewal, co-chaired the dialogue organized in Brussels on September 9.

During the dialogue, the EU and India have shared updates concerning the main developments in their respective terrorism policies and discussed important subjects in the fight against terrorism. “The two parties also explored means of strengthening their CT cooperation and identified future collaboration areas. The next meeting of the joint working group would take place in New Delhi on a mutually practical date,” said the MEA.
The two parties also condemned the odious terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, the EU reiterating its condolences to India for the murder of innocent civilians. Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with the president of the European Council Antonio Costa and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, reaffirming the shared commitment for an early conclusion of the Indian-EU free trade agreement (FTA) Negotiation and implementation of the corridor of India-Middle-Middle East-Europe (IMEEC).
The leaders welcomed the progress of bilateral relations in key sectors such as trade, technology, investment, innovation, sustainability, defense, security and resilience of the supply chain with Prime Minister inviting Costa and Von Der Leyen to visit India for the India-EU summit. The leaders also exchanged points of view on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine.
