In the midst of significant and large-scale changes in the global strategic landscape, India and Germany will endeavor to double bilateral trade, said the Minister of External Affairs (EAM), S. Jaishankar, adding that, together, they would like negotiations of the Indian-UNE-EU (ALE) free trade agreement to be a decisive conclusion soon.
Bilateral trade has increased significantly in the last decade between the two nations, reaching a record summit of around 33.4 billion dollars (28 billion euros) in 2024.
In a press briefing to the visit of the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, Eam Jaishankar said that in one of his previous interviews, his German counterpart had declared that it was very confident that “we would double our profession” with India.

Wadephul said India is the main economic business partner in Germany and that more than 200 German companies are active in the country.
He described India as “increasing economic power” with a “particular importance” on the world scene, reaffirming the full support of Berlin to the finalization of the ALE between India and the European Union.
Germany was the 8th trading partner for India in 2024-25. It was India’s 12th trading partner in 2023-24 and the 11th largest trading partner in 2022-2023. Germany is the 9th largest direct foreign investor in India with a cumulative FDI of $ 15.11 billion from April 2000 to March 2025.
