New Delhi: India would like to see its current negotiations with the European Union for a free trade agreement (ALE) to arrive soon “decisive conclusion,” the Minister of External Affairs said on Wednesday, stressing that the two parties explore cooperation in the green hydrogen sector.Jaishankar’s remarks came to a joint press conference after having held large talks with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul.
The discussions, he said, focused on strengthening links in the fields of economy, climate change, defense and technology.We appreciate Germany’s objective to double trade with India, said Jaishankar, while thanking Berlin to solve export control problems. He also praised Germany’s interest to collaborate with India in the semiconductor sector.India and Germany also explore cooperation in the green hydrogen sector, he added.According to the Minister of External Affairs, Wadephul assured him that Germany would put its “total weight” behind the Indian-EU free trade pact. India’s relationship with Germany is extremely important and it increases considerably, he noted.In addition in terms of economic ties, India and Germany recorded a two -way trade of nearly 50 billion euros last year. Stressing the momentum, Jaishankar said: “Our bidirectional trade last year was nearly 50 billion euros. The German Minister of Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul, in one of his interviews, said that he was very confident that we would doubt our job. Let me assure him that India made him fully the feeling. He is looking forward to working with the German government.“I want to reiterate that we are fully determined to continuously improve the ease of business in this country,” he said, adding that all the concerns of German companies would have special attention.The remarks have occurred while India and the EU continue the talks on the longtime FTA, which aims to stimulate trade and investment between the two parties.
