New Delhi: After the success of the India-Uk Free Trade Agreement (ALE), all eyes on the Commercial Pact with the European Union (EU) and the Center declared on Friday that India and the EU have been negotiating an ALE since June 2022, and 12 cycles of negotiations were completed, the last being in July 2025.
Exports of goods to the European Union have shown an upward trend in the last five years, going from 41.36 billion USD during the year 2020-2021 to $ 75.76 billion in 20024-25, the Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Jitin Prasada, Rajya Sabha said in a written issue.
India and the EU are aimed at reaching an agreement on a free trade agreement by the end of 2025. Likewise, the export of goods to the United States has also shown an upward trend in the last five years, going from USD 51.6 billion in the year 2020-21 to 86.5 billion USD during the year 2024-25, informed the Minister.
India has signed a complete economic and commercial agreement (CEPA) with the United Kingdom, after a successful conclusion of negotiations.
The coming months will be crucial for the global trade relations of India, because the government intensifies negotiations with the main partners such as the EU and the Anase block.
In commercial negotiations in India-EU, the two parties exchanged their market access offers for goods and services. Certain parts of the agreement, called “chapters”, have been finalized, while the discussions continue on the questions where the two parties differ. The next series of talks should take place in India in the first week of September, according to the government.
The two parties also agreed to conclude a temporary version first to accelerate the process.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, said last month that the FTA of India-EU complete proposed and significant underlines the collective commitment to forge stronger economic links and a future of inclusive growth.
Addressing the high -level commercial and investment policy in India during its visit to Stockholm, in the presence of the Confederation of Swedish companies and the main Swedish and Indian companies, the Minister discussed the immense potential for collaboration between the two parties.
