

Nicosia: Cyprus brought “unshakable support” to India on Monday in its fight against cross -border terrorism while the two “unequivocal” countries condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and demonstrations, including international and cross -border terrorism.
A joint declaration published after large talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of Cyprus Nikos Christudoulides said that the two parties “reaffirmed their common commitment to counter the hybrid threats that undermine peace and stability”.
“Cyprus expressed its solidarity and unshakable support to India in its fight against cross-border terrorism. The two leaders strongly condemned the horrible murder of civilians in the recent odious terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu-Cachemire, India,” said the declaration.
“They reiterated their approach to zero tolerance of terrorism, rejecting any justification of such acts, in all circumstances. They stressed that attacks on attacks should be held responsible,” he added.
The terrorists killed 26 civilians in a terrorist attack at the Pahalgam of Jammu-et-Cachemire on April 22.
“Cyprus and India have unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and demonstrations, including international and cross -border terrorism, and have reaffirmed their common commitment to counter the hybrid threats that undermine peace and stability,” said joint declaration.
He said the two leaders have urged all states to respect the sovereignty of other nations and to condemn cross -border terrorism in all its forms.
“They called for the disruption of terrorism financing networks, the elimination of security shelters, the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure and the transmission of terrorism perpetrators in court,” he added.
Stressing the need for a complete, coordinated and supported approach to fight terrorism through borders, the two leaders stressed the importance of working in collaboration, bilaterally and with the multilateral system, said the declaration.
Modi reached Cyprus on Sunday during the first stage of his three nations tour.
This is his first foreign visit since India carried out the Sindoor operation under which the Indian armed forces made strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and the cashmere occupied by Pakistan on May 7 in retaliation for the terrorist attack of Pahalgam.
“The two leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen multilateral efforts to fight terrorism and have called for the finalization and rapid adoption of the complete convention on international terrorism within the framework of the United Nations,” said the declaration.
He indicated that they asked for concerted actions against all terrorists and terrorist entities designated by one and the EU, proxy groups, facilitators and associated sponsors, including the terrorists of the 1267 CSNU 1267 sanctions committee.
They reiterated their solid commitment to continue to take active measures to disrupt terrorist financing channels, in particular through the UN and the Financial Action Working Group (FATF), according to the press release.
The two leaders highlighted the importance of improving strategic autonomy, defense preparation and defense capacities in the wake of emerging challenges in the international security environment.
“They agreed to deepen their defense and their cooperation in terms of security, in particular by the collaboration between their respective defense industries, with a particular accent on cybersecurity and emerging technologies,” he said.
Cyprus and India “have expressed their strong commitment to the resumption of efforts that are not facilitated to achieve a complete and lasting regulation of the Cyprus issue on the basis of a biziz and bicommunal federation with political equality, in accordance with the United Nations contained declaration and the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council,” said the joint declaration.

The two leaders also discussed the expansion of cooperation to include the maritime field and determined to strengthen collaboration in emergency preparation and the response to the coordinated crisis, he added.
In the light of the current global crises, the two parties undertook to strengthen cooperation in emergency preparation and the response to the coordinated crisis.
Based on successful efforts, the leaders have agreed to institutionalize coordination in evacuation and research and rescue operations (SAR).
Mody’s visit to Cyprus is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in more than two decades. His visit marks a historical stage and reaffirms the deep and lasting friendship between the two nations, he added.
Noting that Cyprus and India share a strategic vision of serving as bridges between the regions, the two leaders stressed the importance of the East Indian Economic Corridor (Imeec) as a multi-nodal transformative initiative which promotes peace, economic integration and sustainable development.
Pending the Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union at the beginning of 2026, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen EU-India relations.
Cyprus undertook to work for the advancement of the EU-Indian strategic partnership during the presidency, said the declaration.
The two parties expressed their disposal to support the conclusion of the EU-Indian free trade agreement at the end of this year, recognizing its important economic and strategic potential, he added.
Recognizing the growing strategic complementarity between Cyprus and India, leaders have undertaken to expand economic ties thanks to an increase in trade, investments and collaboration in science, innovation and research, he said.
The two leaders have agreed to promote collaboration in research, innovation and technology, to promote stronger links between startups, university institutions and industry, and support the exchange of innovation in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and research, with a view to concluding a memorandum of understanding.
The two leaders recognized the links of people to the person as a strategic asset and a multiplier to deepen economic and cultural ties. The two parties will endeavor to finalize an arrangement of a mobility pilot program by the end of 2025, he said.
They agreed to explore opportunities for improving tourism and the establishment of direct air connectivity between Cyprus and India, as well as improved airways via shared partners, to improve the ease of travel and stimulate bilateral exchanges, added the declaration.
