India and the European Union have made progress in discussions related to a free trade pact which will be “complete, balanced and significant,” said external affairs minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday June 11, 2025). Mr. Jaishankar made these remarks after meeting Maros Sefcovic, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Safety in Brussels.
“Recognized the progress of our discussions for a complete, balanced and significant Ale agreement between India and the EU. Accept that this would breed our strategic partnership, which quickly acquires new dimensions and facets,” said Jaishankar after the meeting.
Mr. Sefcovic described the meeting as “precious” and said: “We keep our strategic objectives firmly in place, and I can’t wait to see Piyush Goyal (Minister of Trade of the Union) soon.”
The guest minister also met Jozef Sikela, EU commissioner with international partnerships.
“After our recent mission in India, we continue to put pressure on a stronger EU-India partnership. Today, I had a meeting with the Indian Minister of India, Dr. Jaishankar. We discussed the new EU-Indian corridor project, the joint priorities in India, including clean energy, sustainable urbanization and improved connectivity, “said Mr. Sikela after the clean meeting.
After the meeting with Mr. Sikela, Mr. Jaishankar said: “Our conversation focused on driving the commitment of India-EU in connectivity, IMEC, green expedition and clean energy.
Mr. Jaishankar is visiting a week in Europe covering, in France, Belgium and at the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels.
