BRUSSELS: The Minister of External Affairs, Jaishankar, met on Wednesday the president of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola here and discussed the means to further strengthen the strategic partnership of the EU-INEN.
Jaishankar, who goes to Europe to stimulate bilateral ties and reaffirm the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism, also met leaders of the European Parliament and praised their support for “stronger” Indian relations.
“A warm conversation with @ep_president Roberta Metsola in Brussels this morning. Discussed again the parliamentary links of India-EU, based on our common values of democracy and pluralism,” he said in an article on X.
“Promote its positive feelings on the progress of our business, technology and security partnership,” added the minister.
Metsola said she was delighted to welcome Jaishankar to the European Parliament.
“While negotiations on a free trade agreement advance, we are impatient to transform commitments into actions and strengthen the strategic partnership between Europe and India,” she added.
Jaishankar, who went to Europe a month after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to Pahalgam’s attack, said that he had a “pleasure in interacting” with the members of the European Parliament Angelika Niebler, Urmas Paet, Pilar del Castillo, Vladimir Prebilič and Winkler Gyula on Tuesday.
“Welcomed their support for stronger India links. Also appreciate their understanding of India’s law to defend itself against terrorism,” he said, adding that they “exchange prospects on global developments and regional issues”.
Jaishankar also met the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and praised his “strong conviction” of the attack by Pahalgam and solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
The Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 made 26 lives, after which India made precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and cashmere occupied by Pakistan on May 7.
