India and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to conclude the free trade agreement (ALE) by the end of 2025, aimed at a balanced, inclusive and resilient commercial partnership. The FTA seeks to improve market access, digital transition and resilience of the supply chain.
The high -level commitment highlights the strategic importance that the two partners attach to the construction of a commercial, mutually beneficial, balanced commercial partnership and a fair trade partnership which supports economic resilience and inclusive growth. The meeting underlined the progress made on several negotiating avenues and highlighted the importance of maintaining continuous dynamics thanks to monthly negotiation towers and continuous virtual engagement. The two parties reiterated their objective of solving the problems pending in a spirit of mutual respect and pragmatism, including in the next round scheduled for May 12 to 16, 2025, in New Delhi.
India has stressed that significant progress in commercial negotiations require equal focus on non -tariff obstacles (TNT) as well as tariff discussions and regulatory executives must be inclusive, proportionate and avoid restricting trade, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a press release.
India-EU FTA aspires to reflect the evolutionary realities of global trade by supporting the digital transition, by promoting the diversified and resilient supply chains. The two parties have expressed the optimism that the agreement, once concluded, will serve as a transformative pillar of the broader strategic partnership of the EU-EU, to improve market access, to support regulatory cooperation and to promote innovation and competitiveness on both sides. The two parties recognized the crucial role of investment flows and mobility of people to people in maintaining economic vitality.
In the spirit of the emergence of India as “Vishwa Mitra” – a partner of the world – and aligning itself on its development objectives in 2047, India -U FTA is considered an instrument to promote diversified production networks and maintain the principles of fair trade. While India continues to expand its imprint thanks to multiple free trade transactions, this dialogue reflects its broader vision of shaping a loan framework for the future aligned with national priorities and global aspirations.
