
NEW DELHI: The European Union (EU) organized a technical workshop on prevention and the fight against violent extremism in New Delhi on Wednesday which was joined by officials of the fight against terrorism and the security of India and EU member states.

The workshop, held on the sidelines of the Dialogue Raisina, approaching approaches focused on the whole government to combat extremism, risk assessment processes, exit programs and reintegration strategies. Participants agreed with the need for continuous collaboration on “soft and hard safety aspects of counter-terrorism,” said an EU statement.
The event brought together experts against terrorism and EU and Indian security agencies and political institutions to exchange best practices on prevention, deactivation and rehabilitation of violent extremists.
The workshop was a follow-up of the recent visit to India by visiting the college of European Commissioners in India, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen underlined the need for more in-depth collaboration in counter-terrorism and to strengthen cooperation to combat terrorism and the financing of terrorism. The two parties also undertook to explore a security and defense partnership.
The workshop was opened by EU Ambassador Hervé Delphin, and the EU delegation included security practitioners of EU institutions and Member States (Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Netherlands).
The former director general of the National Agency of Investigation (NIA), Dinkar Gupta, said: “India and the EU face evolving security threats which require innovative and collaborative solutions. Learning the other’s experiences will help us create more effective strategies for deradicalization, rehabilitation and long -term prevention. ”
Maciej Stadejek, director of the security and defense policy in the European external action service, said: “This workshop testifies to the deepening of the EU-Indian partnership in the fight against terrorism and security cooperation.
The workshop is also aligned with EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy and is based on the continuous commitment to the fight against EU-India terrorism within the framework of the ESIWA + project (improving EU security cooperation in and with Asia and Indo-Pacific Training), in particular the training in chemical, biological and DRN).
In February 2022, the EU and India organized their first joint workshop on the content of online terrorism, based on the counter-terrorism dialogue initiated in November 2020.
