New Delhi (India), March 19 (Ani): the European Union (EU) summoned a technical workshop to New Delhi today to prevent and counter violent extremism (P / CVE), held on the sidelines of the Dialogue Raisina. Organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands, the event was opened by the EU ambassador to India Herve Delphin.
Bringing together counter-terrorist experts and main EU and Indian security agencies and political institutions, the workshop has facilitated an exchange of best practices on the prevention, design and rehabilitation of violent extremists. The EU delegation included security practitioners of European Union institutions, EU member states (Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Netherlands) and Strong Cities Network (SCN), demonstrating the Europe Spirit team.
Discussions focused on fully government approaches, risk assessment processes, outing programs and reintegration strategies. Participants stressed the importance of sustained collaboration on gentle and hard security measures in the efforts to fight terrorism.
Maciej Stadejek, director of the security and defense policy in the European external action service, said: “This workshop testifies to the deepening of the EU-Indian partnership in the fight against terrorism and security cooperation. He added:” We hope that by sharing EU approaches for deradicalization, risk assessment and prevention strategies, we can strengthen our commitment to On the fight against terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism. “
Echoing this feeling, Dinkar Gupta, former director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat the evolution of security threats. “India and the EU face the evolution of security threats that require innovative and collaborative solutions. Learning the experiences of others will help us create more effective strategies for deradicalization, rehabilitation and long-term prevention,” he said.
The workshop follows the recent visit to the College of Commissioners in India, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen have reaffirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation in counter-terrorism. The declaration of their leaders stressed the importance of strengthening international efforts to combat terrorism and the financing of terrorism in a complete and sustained manner. The two parties also agreed to explore a wider security and defense partnership.
Alignment with the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy, the workshop is based on the collaboration against the current EU-India terrorism within the framework of the ESIWA + initiative of the EU (improving security cooperation in and with Asia and Indo-Pacific). This cooperation included training for Indian security practitioners on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks (CBRN), as well as efforts to counter online radicalization and drone terrorism.
The EU and India have embarked on a sustained dialogue on the fight against terrorism over the years. In February 2022, the two parties organized their first joint workshop on online terrorist content, an extension of the counter-terrorism dialogue initiated in November 2020. This online workshop addressed the growing exploitation of digital platforms by terrorist groups and explored innovative prevention campaigns. The regulation of online terrorist content was then raised as one of the two main priorities during the discussions of March 2022.
The question remained a focal point in the dialogue against the terrorism of the EU-India 2024, strengthening the common commitment to fight against this evolving threat. He was again highlighted in discussions during the recent visit to the College of Commissioners in India.
The ESIWA + initiative strives to improve EU security and defense cooperation in four key areas: fight against terrorism and violent extremism, crisis management and fight against hybrid threats, cybersecurity and maritime security. Co-financed by the European Union, the Federal Foreign Office German and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, ESIWA + is co-to work by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Expertise France.
