
New Delhi, 19 years oldth February 2024: On 35 experts from the European Union (EU) and India will join forces in New Delhi on Wednesday February 21 to examine the security and policy aspects of disinformation and information manipulation online, while identify possible areas of EU-India collaboration.
Taking place on the sidelines of Raisina Dialogue 2024, EU-India Track 1.5 event “Combating disinformation online: European and Indian perspectives” is the 4th roundtable co-organized by the EU-funded project. Strengthening Security Cooperation in and with Asia (ESIWA) and the Indian Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in partnership with the EU Delegation to India.
Peer discussion will allow explore trends in the use of disinformation online and encourage governmental and non-governmental actors from the EU and India to compare notes and share best practices in combating disinformation.
In line with the #TeamEurope approach, the high-level meeting will bring together stakeholders from across the EU such as the European External Action Service, German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Embassy in New Delhi and the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From the Indian side, representatives from agencies such as the National Cyber Security Coordination Center of India and the National Security Council Secretariat of India will participate.
Experts will discuss foreign policy responses to disinformation in both regions, highlight developments in the EU and India’s efforts to disrupt malicious actors, and reflect on the role of civil society in combating countering online misinformation and building resilience.
“In the physical world, Europe may seem far removed from Asia, but in cyberspace we live together, sometimes in a complex and dangerous cyberneighborhood where our societies depend on resilient and reliable digital services and where we can all be victims of malicious cyberattacks. We must meet these challenges through mutual defense and strong and reliable cooperation. said the deputy head of the European Union delegation to India Seppo Nurmiwho will deliver the welcome speech during the round table. “Participants from both regions will provide insight into their respective approaches to combating disinformation, with a particular focus on safeguarding freedom of expression and privacy. Track 1.5 dialogue will reflect on EU and India foreign policy responses to online disinformation, while identifying opportunities for cooperation between the EU and India,” Nurmi added.
The EU and India have repeatedly reaffirmed their commitment to an open, free, secure, stable, peaceful and accessible cyberspace, conducive to economic growth and innovation. To promote further cooperation, ESIWA and ORF jointly organized a series of Level 1.5 dialogues between the EU and India in the form of high-level meetings.
The first three meetings were organized in April 2022, October 2022 and March 2023 in New Delhi on the sidelines of the CyFy and Raisina dialogues. Outcomes from the meetings feed into formal EU-India cybersecurity dialogues, advancing the discussion on evolving security challenges and building connections between two global security actors.

ESIWA: THE Strengthening Security Cooperation in and with Asia (ESIWA) The project is co-financed by the European Union, the German Federal Foreign Office and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
